# Set tax and transaction fees

> Configure taxable sales, category exceptions, and who covers Payam fees.

Open **Settings → Taxes** to decide whether the store charges tax. **No, don't charge tax** disables tax calculation and receipt tax lines. **Yes, charge tax at checkout** enables a tax breakdown. Review the current options shown for your store before saving; the tax treatment and available rates can depend on your configuration.

## Set the rate and exceptions

Choose the default rate or enter a custom rate. The dashboard applies it to taxable products unless a category-specific override exists. Select **Add category rate** to give a category a different rate or mark it tax exempt. Edit an existing category override from the list. Check which categories your products belong to before relying on the exception.

## Choose transaction-fee handling

Open **Settings → Transaction fee** to review how Payam's transaction fee is applied. The page provides treatment choices and a checkout preview showing subtotal, discount, fee, any international-card surcharge, and total. Select the treatment that matches your store policy and complete any activation step shown. Reopen the checkout preview after saving, then use a test order to confirm what the shopper sees.

Changing tax or fee settings affects monetary totals. Review a representative product, a discounted order, and a delivery order in checkout before taking live orders under the new setup.
