# Set up in-store POS

> Configure in-person checkout and open POS on a device.

The merchant dashboard has an **In-store POS** area for configuring checkout and opening the till. Store setup must be complete before the POS can take payments. A POS plan may also be required.

## Configure POS

1. In the dashboard, open **In-store POS → Overview**. The page is titled **Point of Sale**.
2. Review the settings for orders and checkout, payment methods, outstanding payments, discounts, and PIN security.
3. Select **Save Changes** after changing a setting.
4. Use **Settings → Staff** to invite cashiers and choose their POS roles. Staff with POS access set their own PIN when they first open POS.

Select **Open POS** to launch the till for your current store. The **Devices** page also provides an install guide and QR code for the store's POS link.

## Install POS on a device

* **Phone or tablet:** Open `pos.payam.africa` in Chrome or Safari, then use **Add to Home Screen** from the browser menu or Share menu.
* **Desktop:** Open `pos.payam.africa` in Chrome or Edge and use the browser's install button.

Use the store-specific link or QR code shown on **In-store POS → Devices** so the correct store opens. The POS can be installed as an app, and supported offline actions sync when a connection returns.

## If POS is unavailable

If you see **POS is not ready yet**, the store owner must finish the dashboard setup checklist. Once activated, select **Check again** in POS while online. If the dashboard asks you to view or renew POS plans, open **Subscription** or ask someone with billing access.
