# Configure POS checkout and security

> Review order defaults, tax, receipts, payment methods, discounts, and manager controls.

Open **In-store POS → Overview** in the merchant dashboard. Review each settings section and select **Save Changes** after editing. Store setup must be complete before POS can take payments, and your plan may affect access.

## Orders and checkout

* **Default order status:** Choose whether a completed checkout becomes **Paid & fulfilled** or **Paid**. Pick the one that matches how your team hands over goods.
* **Apply tax at checkout:** Controls whether the tax configured under **Settings → Tax** is applied at POS.
* **Require a customer on every order:** Makes staff attach a customer for receipts or order history.
* **Default receipt delivery:** Choose **Ask every time**, **WhatsApp**, **Print**, or **Email**. Staff may still need a destination or printer appropriate to that method.
* **Accepted payment methods:** Enable the methods staff may choose at checkout: **Cash**, **Bank transfer**, and **Card**. Keep at least one enabled.
* **Offline mode:** Allows supported actions to be recorded while disconnected and synced when service returns. Check pending sync before signing out of a device.
* **Allow refunds:** Lets staff refund paid POS orders from their order detail page, subject to permissions and PIN settings.

## Outstanding payments

**Allow partial payments** lets a customer pay part of a sale now and leave a balance. **Allow customers to pay later** allows a sale with no payment collected; staff must attach the order to a named customer. You can require a manager PIN before staff create a pay-later order. Review outstanding balances in the relevant POS and dashboard views so they are followed up.

## Discounts and manager approval

**Allow quick discounts** lets staff enter an ad hoc percentage or fixed amount at checkout. Set a **maximum quick discount without manager PIN**; above it, POS asks for a manager PIN rather than blocking the sale. The choices shown include 5%, 10%, 20%, and no limit. **Accept discount codes at checkout** is a separate control. You can also require manager PIN approval for manual discounts.

## PIN and device security

Enable **Require PIN to open POS** so staff enter a four-digit PIN before using the till. Separate controls require manager PIN for refunds, discounts, and PIN resets. **Auto-lock after inactivity** returns the till to the PIN screen after the selected idle time. Give each staff member their own access under **Settings → Staff**, and use manager permissions only for people who should approve these actions.

After changing settings, open POS and run a small test transaction or a controlled staff walkthrough to check the checkout options and approval prompts.
