# Discounts and promotions

> Create codes, automatic offers, order-value discounts, and free delivery.

Open **Discounts** to see and manage promotions. Select **Create discount** and choose the type that matches the offer:

| Type | Use it for |
| - | - |
| **Discount code** | A code customers enter to receive an offer. |
| **Order value discount** | An offer that applies when the order total reaches a threshold. |
| **Automatic discount** | An offer applied to eligible products without a code. |
| **Free delivery** | A delivery offer for eligible orders. |

The form changes by discount type. Review the name or code, percentage or fixed value, eligible products or categories, order requirements, usage limits, active dates, status, and **Publish to** settings before saving. A discount that has not started, has ended, is inactive, or is unavailable in a channel will not behave like a live offer.

Return to the Discounts list to find or edit an offer. Use [Analytics](https://help.payam.africa/merchants/analytics.md) to inspect discount performance and usage by channel.

## Check why a promotion does not apply

Open the discount and review its **Details**, **Value**, **Requirements**, **Usage limits**, **Active dates**, **Status**, and **Publish to** sections. A code may be valid but still fail when the cart does not meet a minimum, the relevant product or category is excluded, its usage limit is reached, or the current sales channel is not enabled. Test a qualifying and a non-qualifying cart before announcing a promotion. For POS, the store owner separately controls whether staff can accept discount codes and quick discounts in [POS settings](https://help.payam.africa/merchants/pos-settings.md).
